About the role
Location: National Grid Projects (UK-wide)
Balfour Beatty’s Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team is seeking a dedicated OHL Site Engineer to support the growth of our National Grid projects. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-profile infrastructure developments and work alongside experienced professionals in the industry.
The Role:
As an OHL Site Engineer, you will work closely with the Project Manager / Project Director and the project team, taking accountability for successful project delivery. Your role will involve planning, design, execution, monitoring, commissioning, and handover/close-out, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
What you’ll be doing:
- Attend periodic project reviews / project meetings
- Maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries etc.)
- Prepare both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
- Ensure reports provide relevant information for informed, cost-effective decisions in line with overall strategy
- Support scope and package assignment to support team coordination
- Specify, understand, and implement technical information and drawings into delivery
- Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & stay updated with legislative changes
- Be responsible for the safety and welfare of the public, employees, and supply chain
- Support safety & environmental tours and promote safety initiatives
- Monitor effectiveness of H&S Management System and suggest improvements
- Write and understand RAMS
- Identify, raise, and report risks and hazards
- Support incident and H&S responses
- Understand, control, and issue safety documentation
- Complete audits
- Set people to work
- Manage subcontractors, monitor attendance and progress, provide instructions and support to meet contractual requirements
- Ensure procurement plans align with project schedules for timely delivery
- Follow and monitor KPIs in line with project objectives
- Ensure audits are conducted and act on findings
- Contribute to workshops on continuous improvement principles
- Develop and update resource-loaded schedules
- Adopt productivity and project control techniques
- Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes, hold weekly meetings
- Ensure operational milestones reflect the master schedule and customer expectations
- Coordinate with other project activities and internal functions
