We are looking for a talented individual to join our team as a Junior Database Administrator, focusing on improving the efficiency and availability of our databases. The candidate must have strong analysis and troubleshooting skills; experience managing enterprise-class databases will be an added advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that databases are optimally configured and collaborate with the development team to optimize database use, including query profiling, table indexing, and file layout.
  • Perform database performance tuning and optimization, such as improving queries, rebuilding/updating indices, performing database cleanups, and reconfiguring settings.
  • Set up and manage replication topologies for high availability.
  • Manage database security by granting/revoking permissions, ensuring security practices, and conducting periodic audits.
  • Establish and maintain highly available database architectures.
  • Utilize SQL tools effectively.
  • Implement operational automation.
  • Design, test, and implement disaster recovery plans to minimize RTO and meet RPO objectives.
  • Ensure database backups are current and available, with policies in place to minimize data loss.
  • Participate in on-call rotation schedules.
  • Assist the team with application issues.
  • Support application development, deployment, and system support functions throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Manage large-scale complex database projects into manageable deliverables.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or information systems.
  • At least 1 year of experience in database administration.
  • Proficiency in T-SQL programming, including writing functions, procedures, and complex queries.
  • Knowledge of database clustering technologies (AlwaysOn, failover clusters, mirroring, log shipping, etc.).
  • Experience with data conversion technologies.
  • Strong analysis and troubleshooting skills, including familiarity with profiling tools.
  • Proactive, self-starting attitude with the ability to drive projects to completion.
  • Understanding of database optimization for functionality, reliability, supportability, availability, scalability, and integrity.
