Michael Williams is the cluster manager responsible for the overall operational, financial, and strategic management of the paid-to-enter English Heritage historic sites along Hadrian’s Wall. English Heritage is a registered charity and is one of the most important guardians of historic sites in England, caring for over 400 historic buildings, monuments, and sites spanning over 6,000 years of history.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the English Heritage historic sites along Hadrian’s Wall, including Birdoswald Roman Fort, Chesters and Housesteads Roman Forts, Corbridge Roman Town, and Lanercost Priory.
  • Forecast and track income and KPI figures, driving the teams to hit and exceed their targets for the charity.
  • Ensure health and safety at the sites, briefing teams effectively and monitoring risks associated with the historic properties.
  • Consider the geographical and scientific aspects of the historic properties, understanding their strategic placement by the Romans.
  • Address the environmental impacts on the historic sites, collaborating with colleagues to protect the future of these monuments.

As a cluster manager, I have overall responsibility for five properties within the English Heritage charity.
