A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO IMPAX

Impax is a specialist asset manager, experienced at investing in the opportunities arising from the transition to a more sustainable global economy. Founded in 1998, Impax offers a range of thematic and unconstrained global equity strategies as well as real asset funds focused on the growth opportunity arising from a sustainable economy. In 2018, Impax Asset Management Group acquired Pax World Management LLC, investment advisor to Pax World Funds (β€œPax”), a pioneer since 1971 in sustainable investing. We are engaged investors, in regular dialogue with companies in our portfolios and reporting on our stewardship activities to our clients. Where possible, we report on the positive environmental impact of our thematic investments; this positive impact is an outcome of our investment style. The firm is headquartered in London with offices on both coasts of the United States as well as Hong Kong, Japan, Ireland, Denmark, and Germany. Today, Impax manages assets for some of the world’s largest asset owners.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Private Equity (PE) team manages the Impax New Energy Fund series (NEF Funds), investing or partnering with development companies that develop renewable energy projects, primarily wind farms, solar parks, and hydroelectric plants. These are mainly located in the EEA, with smaller investments in the UK and USA. The PE team is divided into the transaction team and the asset management team. The transaction team focuses on sourcing and acquiring new investments, while the asset management team works with the management of acquired or partnered companies to execute the business plan. As ownership progresses, the transaction team identifies and negotiates sales.

The objectives of the Asset Management department include:

  • Taking operational responsibility for all investments, acting as the asset owner with support from the transaction team.
  • Maintaining proper procedures for investments, including regulatory and compliance requirements, monitoring contractual commitments, liability management, and health & safety procedures.
  • Driving performance objectives to ensure investments perform at least in line with the financial models at acquisition, seeking to optimize or improve performance.
