Role Overview

As a Locum Educational Psychologist, you will conduct educational psychology assessments to provide statutory advice, in line with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice. Your work will directly contribute to improving outcomes for vulnerable children and those with special educational needs. You will also work closely with families, schools, and professionals to ensure the child’s strengths are recognised, and they receive the appropriate support to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete educational psychology assessments for children and young people to inform Education, Health, and Care (EHC) needs advice within set timescales.
  • Collaborate with parents, schools, early years settings, and other professionals to develop shared understanding and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Provide evidence-based recommendations to promote inclusive practice and equitable access to education.
  • Support tribunal procedures as needed, offering professional contributions and presentations.
  • Ensure concerns regarding Child Protection or Children in Need are reported promptly, following established procedures.
  • Deliver high-quality, clear, and compliant reports using standard templates, ensuring feedback from senior professionals is addressed.
  • Stay up to date with psychological models, legislation, and reflective professional development practices.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • Qualified status approved by the British Psychological Society (BPS) in Educational and Child Psychology (or equivalent).
  • A recognised postgraduate qualification in Educational and Child Psychology.
  • Registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Skills and Experience

  • Strong knowledge of child development and current child-related legislation, including child protection procedures.
  • Up-to-date understanding of psychological theories, models, and their practical application.
  • Commitment to inclusive practice in schools and a belief in equal opportunities for all children.
  • Experience working in multi-agency settings to achieve the best outcomes for children.
