Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist

To have a clinical lead responsibility in the service, developing pathways in conjunction with locality and Service Leads. Represent and deputise for the locality team lead as required. To assess, plan and develop specialist OT programmes for patients with complex neurological problems and a wide variety of complex needs. Using expert knowledge, advanced clinical and autonomous decision-making skills, lead the team to manage patients with highly complex and sometimes unstable health needs. Ensure systems are in place to evidence the ward is compliant with care quality commission standards. To work as an autonomous specialist practitioner within the multi-professional Integrated Stroke ESD and Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service. To be responsible for own caseload and undertake specialist assessment of patients with complex and multiple pathologies using advanced, specialist clinical reasoning skills. To identify patient needs, agree goals and provide appropriate therapy interventions relating to their physical, functional, psychological and cognitive needs. Provide adaptive equipment, rehabilitation programmes, and work with other OT colleagues to develop recommendations for minor and major adaptations. To be responsible for referring the patient onto other services and agencies to ensure their identified needs are met. To keep the patient at the centre of care, ensuring patient and carer participation in decision making.

Education / Qualifications

• Essential criteria

• Degree or equivalent, e.g. BSc, MSc or Diploma entry level qualification into the O.T. profession.
• Current HCPC registration.
• Professional knowledge and training to master’s level or equivalent experience.
• Theoretical study and experience within a neuro rehab setting to master’s level or equivalent experience.
• Documented evidence of own continuing professional development and its application.
• Fieldwork/Practice Educator qualification.

• Member of RCOT.
• Member of Specialist Section Neurological Practice (SSNP).
• Leadership qualification and experience.

Experience

• Essential criteria

• Significant relevant post-graduate clinical experience in a variety of settings including community.
• Specialist knowledge of a broad range of OT client groups.
• Advanced understanding of neuro rehab clinical conditions and clinical experience in managing complex neurological conditions including cognitive problems.
• Experience of being involved in research study.
• Experience of implementing change.
• Experienced Clinical Supervisor.
• Previous NHS experience.

• Awareness of housing legislation, minor and major adaptations.

Skills & Abilities

• Essential criteria

• Ability to develop and review clinical pathways and implement change.
• Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision.
• Ability to work flexibly as part of a team.
• Advanced communication skills and report writing using standard keyboard skills using packages such as word.

Physical Requirements

• Essential criteria

• The ability to kneel, bend & stoop, and work in cramped environments.
• The ability to use moving and handling equipment to manoeuvre patients.
• Must have access to a personal car and the ability to drive independently around the locality, due to the radius covered and lack of public transport in some area.
