The Director, Tax Technology is responsible for a Practice revenue target, as well as building and managing a team of tax technology professionals. They will lead and/or manage project scope, tasks, project teams, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation; and prepare and review deliverables in connection with client service. The Director oversees the team responsible for the functional and technical direction of projects, including on-time and on-budget delivery of tax technology project tasks, such as requirements analysis, process design, configuration, and implementation of tax automation software. They also maintain and support existing partnerships, client relationships, and provide technical leadership and guidance to their team and clients on project status, timeline, and budget adherence. Additionally, they assist with business development activities by preparing proposals, engagement agreements, and participating in calls and onsite meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides mentorship and training to staff as needed.
  • Provides project management support to client service teams and clients.
  • Develops work plans and schedules for project deliverables.
  • Tracks adherence to project timelines and budgets, notifying clients of any variances.
  • Prepares and reviews project status reports and deliverable documentation.
  • Assists with tax determination processes and reviews related documentation.
  • Supports client billing and financial forecasting.
  • Supports tax technology business development activities, including proposal and engagement document preparation.
  • Manages day-to-day project operations.
  • Defines success criteria and creates metrics for project evaluation.
  • Creates communication plans and manages escalation policies.
  • Supports configuration of tax automation software solutions and manages project execution.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 5-7 years of experience in tax automation services; accounting, tax, or IT degrees preferred.
  • CPA designation is a plus; PMP certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of SDLC, Agile, and tax software solutions like Sabrix, Vertex, Taxware.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with ERP systems integration preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Work Environment & Travel

  • Standard indoor environment with occasional long periods at a computer.
  • Regular interaction with firm staff and external vendors/clients.
  • Travel requirement: 50%+.
