Working to maintain vehicles to the highest possible standards as set out in our standards and procedures whilst complying with our Health and Safety standards and policy. You will be expected to carry out inspections, repairs and servicing across a variety of vehicle makes and models & Fire Appliances, checking vehicles comply with any and all DVSA legislation. Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service pride themselves on a modern fleet and have a healthy vehicle replacement programme that continually runs throughout each year. There is no requirement for customer reports and video inspections and no warranty work is completed in house. You will be working in a modern, clean and tidy workshop with excellent rest facilities including cooking equipment, hot water boilers and outdoor seating areas. You will be required to participate in 24hr Call Out Rota and Out of Hours Stand By duty to support the whole fleet, where there is opportunity to earn a top up to your salary. As a Heavy Vehicle Technician, you will be on a 1 in 8 rota, covering either 12 hours in the week or 24 hours at a weekend. An on-call “standby” fee is paid for each 12-hour period you are covering and any call outs are paid at 1.5 hourly wage rate. Transport is provided to staff members on call as they are not expected to use their personal vehicle for business purposes. This is a diverse role which includes analysis, diagnostics and road testing of vehicles. All of our technicians are provided with relevant manufacturer training and development to further their career portfolio. We offer opportunities to specialise and develop expertise / accreditation within a specific brand or across multiple brands. The Team based at Trentham Lakes, in Stoke on Trent are a collaborative and caring team that work as one to ensure Police and Fire colleagues are maintained to a high standard to keep Staffordshire Safe. Flexible working as part of a weekly alternating work pattern of; Monday to Thursday 9:00-17:00. Friday 7:30-15:00 for all staff. About You In order to be successful, you must possess the following: A relevant formal qualification in Automotive City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 Relevant experience as a Technician/Mechanic Own Set of Tools Full UK Driving Licence & HGV Licence.
