The Role Location: London Hybrid (Office based 1 day per week) Type: Full Time Contract: Permanent We are a value-driven business, focused on making gyms and fitness accessible to as many people as possible. Data is central to our operations, from deciding where to open gyms, to what services we offer, and how we engage with members. Combining data from over 2.5 million members with location, operational, and performance data enables us to gain industry-leading insights, enhancing member experience and commercial success. Data provides a competitive advantage, guiding decisions at scale and enabling personalized experiences.

To leverage this, PureGym has established a Group Insights & Analytics function, comprising Data Engineering, Data Science, and Insights teams, working closely together to deliver business value efficiently. Our cloud-based technology stack relies on Azure Databricks to ensure data availability. As we grow, we aim to develop a unified data platform that supports data-driven decision-making and self-service across all countries in our group. This role is pivotal in leading this transformation and shaping our data strategy.

We are seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead our London-based Data Engineering team, responsible for our data platform's growth and capabilities. The ideal candidate will balance delivering business value with security and scalability, and help shape data management practices, including expanding data sources, evolving data models, and managing data governance. The role involves managing a small but driven Data Engineering team, crucial to implementing our data platform strategy and influencing how data is utilized across the business. It reports to the Group Head of Insights & Analytics and collaborates with senior members of the Insights and Data Science teams.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing daily Data Engineering activities, ensuring platform reliability, performance, and evolution
  • Managing and mentoring team members
  • Managing third-party Data Engineering services
  • Translating business needs into data projects
  • Ensuring data governance compliance
  • Owning data quality and reporting

The Person We seek someone with most of the following:
