Are you a skilled and open-minded Controls or BMS Engineer ready to take your career to the next level in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment? Clear are working with an established and innovative Ignition, SCADA, PLC, and BEMS integrator in the data centre space who are looking for a dedicated Data Centre Controls Engineer to support the continued delivery of high-quality service and project solutions for our data centre client.

This is a home-based role with regular travel to data centres across London and the Southeast. This position offers a flexible and rewarding opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to grow in a dynamic and supportive team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engineer and maintain SCADA and PLC systems within mission-critical data centre environments, including fault diagnosis and repair of Ignition-based front-end applications, PLC Ladder Logic, and redundant communications protocols.
  • Deliver expert BMS (Trend) and PLC maintenance, ensuring maximum system uptime, reliability, and compliance with customer and regulatory standards.
  • Perform detailed site surveys and documentation, gathering all necessary data (e.g. software, graphics, containment, and wiring layouts) to enable accurate task execution and seamless project delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, delivery, and R&D teams, translating client needs into effective control solutions while supporting pre-sales estimating, solution development, and ongoing system optimisation.
  • Provide exceptional customer-facing support, handling technical challenges and complaints with professionalism while maintaining long-term client trust and promoting Chartwell’s reputation for quality and reliability.
Ideal Candidate:
  • Possess hands-on experience with PLC and SCADA systems or someone who has a strong background in BMS engineering.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of liaising effectively with clients, sales teams, and R&D to deliver tailored, high-reliability control solutions.
  • Be highly organised and proactive, with strong problem-solving abilities and a track record of working effectively during unsociable hours when required.
  • Show a customer-focused mindset, combining technical expertise with a willingness to learn, a can-do attitude, and the ability to build lasting client relationships.
