Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Preparing, negotiating and arranging the execution of all agreements required to facilitate trading relationships with global counterparties, and to provide legal advice and ancillary services as necessary for the completion of this task.
- Actively researching relevant legal subjects such as Contract Law and other ISDA and industry material, and attending internal and external training organised by the company.
- Negotiating agreements (sometimes under a foreign legal system, where appropriate), including preparing and submitting draft documents to clients before negotiation and execution of final original documents and any subsequent amendments thereto.
- Undertaking due diligence before and after post completion of agreements, e.g. commissioning and reviewing of legal opinions and supporting documents.
- Creating new standard template agreements and updating existing templates in line with current legal advice and market practice.
- Providing advice as required on legal issues to all departments, such as Operations and the Confirmations Department.
- Giving updates on the status of outstanding issues as necessary.
- Coordinating with Business, Credit, Compliance, Client Services Group, Operations and Chief Officers and obtaining terms and approvals necessary for the completion of agreements.
- Instructing external law firms for advice, processing associated bills and maintaining records.
- Arranging for new agreements to be issued in the event that existing agreements expire.
- Dealing directly with counterparties to agree on terms.
- Maintaining knowledge of current and impending regulations.
- Carrying out any ancillary administrative tasks within the legal department remit as required from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
- Legal Degree or similar qualification.
- 2-3 years of relevant work experience in a similar role.
- Experience working within a regulated environment is preferred for this role.
- Previous experience in Metals and/or Energy would be beneficial.
- Demonstrable experience of previous ISDA work, preferably with the experience and ability to negotiate other trading agreements (especially EFET, FIA Master Netting Agreements and Terms of Business).
- A team player, with good attention to detail, able to work under pressure, prioritise and respond to deadlines.
- Good organisational skills.
- Good stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and build working relationships both internally and externally.
