For roughly 500,000 years, humans have been burning stuff to heat our homes, light our homes, and power our machines. It’s 2025, people. Let’s change that. Right now, homes account for roughly 20% of the world’s carbon emissions. Here at Elephant Energy, we know that there is a better way. As a certified B Corp, we are committed to building a one-stop shop that makes it easy to upgrade to a climate-friendly home. We enable homeowners to confidently make the switch to modern, electric technologies and get their homes off of fossil fuels – all at once, or over time.

About The Role

What you would be doing: As we expand westward, we need a General Manager for our newest market! This is a foundational role for Elephant’s next stage of growth. Reporting to our co-founder, DR, the GM is charged with building a profitable business, cultivating early partnerships, and creating exceptional experiences for customers and trade partners. This role is part builder, part operator, and part dealmaker. You’ll need to be hands-on in the early days, identifying key opportunities, closing strategic partnerships, and ensuring our first projects get over the finish line. Over time, you’ll scale the business and team with a focus on margin, efficiency, and trust. While this role is accountable for market profitability, it does not have full P&L ownership. Budget approval, hiring, and major expenses require alignment with leadership.

Big Things:

  • Market Performance: Drive revenue and ensure projects are delivered profitably, with a focus on project margin.
  • Business Development: Identify and pursue early-stage growth opportunities — from partner deals to local events to your own creative hustle.
  • Sales & Delivery Team Management: Lead a team of HCAs (sales) and PMs (delivery) to meet customer satisfaction, revenue, and margin targets.
  • Partnerships: Develop and negotiate win-win agreements with key partners. You'll be expected to bring deals across the finish line.
  • Process Optimization: Identify friction in tools, handoffs, or workflows and partner with central ops to improve them.
  • Team Coaching: Set expectations, give feedback, and address performance. Build the kind of team you’d want to work for.
  • Market Voice: Represent your market to HQ and bring HQ context back to your team. Ensure ground truths shape company priorities.

This role collaborates closely with ‘herdquarters’ and other centralized teams, so while you’ll play an important part in execution and influence, you won’t have direct ownership of marketing strategy, supply chain decisions, or OEM selection. Similarly, budget approvals, hiring, and vendor choices require alignment with broader processes and input from leadership.

Success in this role looks like/can be measured as:

  • Market consistently hitting revenue and project margin targets.
  • First 10 projects delivered successfully, with satisfied customers and trade partners.
  • One or more strong local partnerships driving top-of-funnel growth.
  • High-trust, high-performing local team.
  • Clear process and feedback loop with HQ teams to accelerate learning and remove blockers.

You’re a great fit for this role if you have:

  • Change Management Experience: You’ve led teams through evolving goals, scrappy beginnings, or changing systems.
  • Deal-Making Skills: You’ve negotiated partnerships, enterprise sales, or complex contracts — and delivered outcomes.
  • Local Market Experience: Deep knowledge of the home services landscape (permitting, lead generation, competitor behaviour).
  • Sales Acumen: You’ve built and closed a pipeline — not just managed one. Bonus if you’ve worked in solar, HVAC, or a similar space.
  • Team Leadership: You know how to coach for performance and step in when someone’s not delivering.
  • Entrepreneurial Energy: You’re not waiting for someone to tell you what to do. You’re already on your way to doing it.

Indicators this may not be the right role for you:

  • You need permission before taking initiative.
  • You expect full decision-making authority from day one.
  • You’re more comfortable managing than building.
  • You avoid confrontation — this role requires advocating for your team and your market.
  • You’re not excited about fixing messy problems or navigating ambiguity.

Total Compensation:

  • Annual base salary of $140,000-$170,000, plus incentives.
  • Incentive compensation tied to financial performance and customer satisfaction will be uncapped.
  • Salary will be commensurate with experience and in line with internal compensation bands.
  • Stock options, commensurate with experience and in line with internal equity bands.
  • Medical, dental insurance covered at 75% for employees.
  • 401k with 6% company match.
  • 10 company holidays and unlimited Paid Time Off (vacation & wellness/illness).
  • Early stage opportunity with high growth potential.
  • Flexible, hybrid work environment.

Location: Commensurate with the leadership role, this position requires in-person work in Los Angeles. We are a Hybrid company with Herdquarters in Broomfield, Colorado and get together as a team semi-annually in Colorado.
