Position: ESG & Sustainability Manager Job Level: Manager Location: London (preferred) or Bristol based, with Hybrid Working We are seeking an experienced ESG & Sustainability Manager to develop and implement innovative sustainability strategies that enable our clients to meet their ambitious ESG and sustainability targets. This role requires a deep technical understanding of real estate, along with the ability to communicate complex sustainability topics clearly and effectively. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for sustainability, building performance, including energy and carbon management, as well as a commercial mindset focused on delivering value to clients. A key priority for this role will be leading a programme of ESG audits, with a focus on identifying energy and cost saving opportunities. The successful candidate will work with institutional investors, sector specialists, and other key clients, collaborating closely with asset managers, internal property teams, and external service providers to ensure sustainability goals are met across a wide range of real estate portfolios. Key Responsibilities: Project Delivery: Lead the delivery of sustainability initiatives, ensuring that projects are completed on time, meet client expectations, and adhere to environmental standards. Energy Audits and Improvement Plans: Manage programmes of audits, and personally conduct on-site inspections of commercial properties, identifying opportunities for improving energy and resource efficiency, utilising good understanding of heating and cooling systems and building fabric. Portfolio Management: Manage a diverse range of ESG-related tasks across commercial properties (e.g., office, retail, logistics, and private rented residential sectors). Sustainability Performance Tracking: Monitor, analyse, and report on key sustainability metrics (e.g., energy use, water consumption, waste management) for client portfolios, including ESG compliance and performance reports. Client Relationship Management: Build and nurture relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor on sustainability matters and securing new business opportunities. Bid and Pitch Preparation: Support the preparation of fee bids, pitches, and client briefings to demonstrate the value of sustainability initiatives. ESG Governance and Communication: Establish and manage the governance framework for sustainability programs, ensuring clear communication of strategies, goals, and progress to all stakeholders. ESG Integration in Transactions: Provide ESG-focused due diligence during pre-acquisition processes, oversee development monitoring, and ensure decarbonisation plans and refurbishment standards are in place for new projects. Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Stay updated on global sustainability trends, emerging tools, and industry benchmarks (e.g., GRESB, REEB) to integrate best practices into clients\’ sustainability programs. Essential and Desirable Requirements: Professional Qualifications: RICS or CIBSE qualification (preferred); ESOS Lead assessor, Low Carbon Consultant, ISO 50001 or equivalent (desirable); IEMA certification (desirable). Relevant Experience: Professional experience in real estate or corporate sustainability, ESG consulting, or related fields. Technical Expertise: Essential to have a strong understanding of sustainability metrics, building performance (including HVAC and M&E equipment), and the integration of ESG principles into real estate management. Experience with EPCs and MEES (Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards), net-zero strategies, and managing ESG reporting and benchmarking (GRESB, REEB, etc.). Project Management: Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and challenge design proposals to integrate sustainability objectives. Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse and interpret technical data from various sources, summarising it clearly and concisely for different stakeholders. Client Management: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and manage client expectations effectively. Organisational Skills: Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritise and multitask effectively. People Management: Ability to mentor and support team members, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment.
