The Associate Design Consultant role is an entry-level position designed to transition to a Design Consultant role within 6 months of hire (the "training period"). During this time, the associate will work closely with Design Consultants to develop selling and interior design skills, focusing on learning the technology used by Design Consultants and the products offered by Ethan Allen, while supporting sales activities. At the end of the training period, management will decide whether the associate will be promoted, require a short extension, or be terminated due to performance issues.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers professionally, assist with design consultations and sales transactions, including wrapping and packaging purchases, under management supervision.
  • Assist Design Consultants with project development, including attending home calls, preparing space plans, product selection, quotes, sketches, and supporting presentations.
  • Educate customers about Ethan Allen's free design services and stay current on design trends.
  • Introduce prospects to Design Consultants or schedule appointments, and enter orders and quotes into the POS system.
  • Communicate with clients regarding appointments and order statuses, participate in marketing and training programs, and educate customers on finance options.
  • Utilize corporate systems for designing, presentations, and customer service.
  • Operate the information desk, support visual merchandising, and assist with clerical tasks.
  • Provide excellent pre- and post-sale customer service, including order updates and maintaining product and price materials.
  • Order and distribute fabric swatches, perform other duties as needed, including overtime hours.

Additional Location-Dependent Responsibilities:

  • Handle cash transactions, reconcile accounts, and perform clerical duties for daily business operations.
  • Follow up on orders, manage communication, and resolve customer inquiries to ensure timely service.
  • Manage incoming communication, research customer issues, and process orders of soft goods and non-EA products.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Interior Design or related field.
  • Experience: Internship or experience with a design firm or retail organization; at least 2 years in retail sales preferred.
  • Other Requirements: Strong sales and organizational skills, professional appearance, high energy, valid driver’s license, and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Hourly rate: $21.00 - $23.00, plus potential monthly incentives.
