Due to rapid growth in the energy sector, we have an exciting opportunity for a multi-skilled Solar PV Technical Design Engineer. Here you’ll undertake the design function for the whole lifecycle of PV projects, from spatially coordinated design through to full design & specification and commissioning of PV installations. Working with various areas of the business including Sales, Development & Design Engineers, Supply Chain, Project Management and Installation teams, you’ll deliver system designs for commercial and industrial Solar PV installations. Utilising your strong PV experience with a pro-active working style, you’ll have the ability to manage your own workload, maintaining strong attention to detail. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to take the next step in their career and make a huge difference to one of the world’s foremost energy suppliers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Taking the lead on designs including shading analysis, 3D modelling, electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules and connection diagrams, using AutoCAD software.
- Performing computer simulation of solar PV generation system performance or energy production to optimise efficiency.
- Reviewing and approving solar PV designs and recommending technical design or process changes to improve efficiency, quality or performance.
- Communicating effectively with clients to ensure design and system proposals are fully understood.
- Working cross-functionally with Sales, project support and installation teams to ensure clients’ needs and internal deadlines are met.
- Adhering to standard operating procedures and quality / safety standards for solar installation work and developing new processes where necessary.
What we need from you:
- Engineering / design skills and experience with a proven track record on a variety of PV schemes; both rooftop and ground mount.
- Strong familiarity with PV manufacturers and components.
- Detailed design experience in small wiring, containment, as built drawings, scaffolding and fall arrest / work restraint.
- Working knowledge of standard and more advanced PC software tools (such as MS Office suite, AutoCAD, PV*SOL/PVSyst, modelling software, etc.) with the ability and willingness to learn new software tools.
- Substantial knowledge of current relevant legislation with regards to HSSE, construction and services installation.
- Thorough understanding, detailed experience and formal training in CDM responsibilities.
- Experience in DNO G99 Applications.
- Full UK/EU driving licence.
