Consultant Gastroenterologist – Derby Region – Perm/Locum FTC Triple West Medical East Midlands GBP 80,000 – 120,000 Consultant Gastroenterologist – Derby Region – Perm/Locum FTC Triple West Medical is seeking 2 x Consultant Gastroenterologist for a NHS Trust based in the East of England either on a substantive basis or a Fixed Term Contract. The Trust is one of the largest in the region with a number of sites with over 11,000 staff and serves a population over 900,000. This post will join the NHS Trusts Gastroenterology department which spans both acute hospital sites. The incumbent would be expected and encouraged to develop a sub-special interest, which will fit well within the needs of the Department, both current and future. An interest in Upper GI cancer, nutrition, endoscopic ultrasound or liver disease would be especially welcome. The Department of Gastroenterology provides both Luminal and Hepatology services. Luminal and Hepatology services are provided on 3 wards across the Trust. There are Clinical Nurse Specialists on both sites including IBD Nurse Specialists and an Upper GI cancer nurse working alongside the Gastroenterologists to maintain care delivery. Across the Trust, there are specialist Nutrition and Dietician teams to support specific Gastroenterology disorders/diseases. The endoscopy unit at the main site is a modern, 3 room facility with the latest equipment carrying out over 9,500 procedures annually. A range of specialist diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are carried out including colonoscopy, large polyp EMR and PEGs. There is dedicated capacity each day for in-patient endoscopy. They provide bowel screening and are JAG accredited. They are now looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic Consultant Gastroenterologist as part of departmental expansion and continued development of specialised services. Brief Duties/Responsibilities Provision with consultant colleagues of a Gastroenterology service to Staffordshire, Derbyshire & surrounding areas with responsibility for diagnosis & treatment of patients at the hospitals & clinics at which you have duties. Responsible for the continuing care & treatment of patients in your charge & personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to & training of your staff. Active participation in undergraduate & post graduate education, including training sessions for Foundation Years, Specialty Registrars, Core and internal Medicine trainees, & medical students. Provision of cover for your consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave including care of patients & supervision of junior doctors. Responsible for the professional supervision, training & management of junior medical staff, carrying out teaching, examination & accreditation duties as required & contributing to postgraduate & CPD activity locally & nationally as appropriate. Participate in clinical audit under local arrangements. Commitment to entering patients into clinical trials where appropriate (if the appointee has an interest in research this would be supported by the Trust & the Division). Commitment to taking part in annual appraisal process which will be undertaken by the Assistant Clinical Director for Gastroenterology/Hepatology. Responsible for compliance with personal continuing professional development requirements with the support of the Trust. It is mandatory for all Consultants to keep up to date with evidence-based practice.
