The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fleet operations at our New York location, including vehicle maintenance, driver management, regulatory compliance, and fleet performance optimization. This role plays a critical part in ensuring a seamless and efficient delivery process, contributing to an exceptional customer experience. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who excels in a fast-paced environment, consistently seeks improvement opportunities, and prioritizes safety and compliance.
What You Will Do At Acme:
- Oversee all drivers, including hiring, training, scheduling, handling grievances, approving time off, and administering disciplinary actions.
- Establish and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), track operational issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.
- Ensure driver adherence to company policies, including checklists, delivery protocols, cash collection, and proof of delivery (POD) processes. Maintain compliance with all local, state, and federal vehicle regulations.
- Investigate and manage moving and parking violations in coordination with third-party consultants.
- Ensure adequate staffing and backup coverage for all routes, including overtime and weekend shifts. Analyze and optimize routing for efficiency, cost savings, and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain vehicle availability to meet delivery demands, oversee preventative maintenance (PM) schedules, and manage vehicle leases, fuel service contracts, and rental needs.
- Arrange for special deliveries as required and procure driver-related items, uniforms, and supplies at optimal pricing.
- Address daily operational challenges such as customer closures, product rejections, driver callouts, and vehicle breakdowns. Collaborate with routing and customer service teams to resolve delivery issues.
- Prepare regular reports on fleet performance, maintenance costs, and key operational metrics for senior management.
- Partner with EHS/HR to champion fleet safety programs, including:
- Monitoring driver behavior and responding to feedback from \”1-800 How’s My Driving\” reports.
- Ensuring timely renewal and compliance with DOT medical card requirements.
- Conducting daily Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks and addressing concerns.
- Utilizing telematics systems (e.g., Samsara) to monitor driver behavior, investigate flagged incidents, and develop targeted safety training.
- Maintaining accurate driver records in compliance with FMCSA and company policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Direct supervision of all drivers, including performance management, coaching, and disciplinary actions.
- In collaboration with Human Resources, develops the documentation, onboarding, and training for new and existing employees.
- Sets goals and expectations for direct reports.
- Be available for drivers during all operational hours to assist with issues.
Your Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, logistics, or a related field.
- 5+ years demonstrated experience as a fleet manager, logistics manager or similar role.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing industry, food manufacturing preferred.
- Proven track record of improving efficiency and reducing costs within a fleet environment.
- Experience with relevant regulations in fleet operations.
- Experience with GPS tracking systems and telematics solutions.
- Experience working in a Union environment.

- Must be able to operate a forklift.
- Must be able to reach above and below shoulder height to move product. This includes the ability to move throughout all areas of the facility.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- The ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects using hands, arms, back, abdominal muscles, shoulders, legs, or a combination of these muscle groups.
- The ability to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job duties.
- The ability to work in cold (32 to 45*F) and wet environment.
- This role does not require travel.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
Health & Safety Requirements:

- Follow mandated OSHA regulations.
- Report all incidents including near misses immediately.
Compensation Range: $118,000 – $134,000 annually.
*This compensation range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
