We are currently recruiting for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Simulator Engineering team who are responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of our Helicopter Simulators based at RAF Benson. In this role, you will provide technical and operational support including software configuration, control maintenance, fault finding, and some support software development for our flight simulators. This is an exciting role with a varied list of tasks: developing software code, scripts, and system configurations to implement new flight systems, integrating new functionalities, or performing software investigations and fault finding to maintain simulator availability for flight training.

Key responsibilities

  • Executing assigned software development tasks and coding of software.
  • Performing various tests such as debugging and robustness testing.
  • Providing accurate estimates for software task completion, identifying potential risks.
  • Investigating faults reported by simulator users.

About you

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Demonstrate initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness in an agile development team.
  • Can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Have experience in C/C++, C#, or Fortran programming.
  • Are familiar with scripting in BASH/CSH.
  • Have UNIX/Linux administration experience.
  • Possess TCP/IP and network troubleshooting skills.
  • Have used IDEs such as Microsoft Visual Studio.
  • Are experienced with Windows and Xterm/XWindows.
  • Are willing to use learning platforms like Pluralsight for skill development.
  • Exposure to modelling, simulation, defence, security, or supporting service-based architectures is advantageous, as well as experience with networking standards like DDS, ZeroMQ.

Please note: Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK. Some activities may require travel within the UK and abroad, and occasional overtime and weekend work. Applicants must be able to obtain or transfer Security Clearance, with eligibility criteria including UK residency for the past 5 years or holding NATO SC level Security Clearance transferable to the UK.
