Job Description

The Job Mission

This role supports chemical safety excellence on a major nuclear construction project. You will help manage chemical hazards to protect people and the environment. Collaborate with experts across safety, environment, and emergency preparedness.

  • Provide technical support across chemical safety, CoSHH, environment, fire, and emergency planning
  • Manage and assure chemical inventory, ensuring REACH and COMAH compliance
  • Review contractor requests to use chemicals, ensuring risk is understood and approved
  • Support rollout of a site-wide chemical management system
  • Champion a chemical safety Community of Best Practice on-site
  • Assist in preparing for COMAH regulation implementation as the project evolves
  • Enhance contractor capability in chemical risk assessments and hazard control
  • Contribute to cross-functional risk mitigation planning and implementation

Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Scientific degree or equivalent qualification
  • BOHS P304 – COSHH Risk Assessment
  • NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Experience managing hazardous chemical risks
  • Working knowledge of REACH and COMAH regulations
  • Ability to advise diverse stakeholders strategically and tactically
  • Strong organisational skills and multitasking ability
  • Proactive, autonomous, and capable of broad compliance oversight
  • Understanding of COSHH principles and safe chemical use
  • Experience supporting cross-functional teams in regulated environments

Desired Skills

  • Awareness of DSEAR/ATEX, fire safety, and occupational health
  • COMAH compliance
  • Experience with chemical inventories or approved substance lists
