An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Project Consultant within our Contaminated Land team in Newcastle. We’re looking for a like-minded individual who enjoys working with an enthusiastic, committed, and fun-loving team, is a good listener, and enjoys solving issues for clients.

You will be reporting to the Team Leader for Land Quality and Remediation (LQR) in Newcastle and be working closely with other multidisciplinary consultants within our Newcastle office. You’ll assist with the delivery of projects both locally and for the LQR consulting team across APAC. You’ll receive guidance from in-house specialists including contaminated site auditors, technical specialists such as hydrogeologists, risk assessors & environmental/remediation engineers and be a part of delivering quality contaminated land services to our New South Wales and National clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • This role will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside industry leaders across the region and provide you with the support on your technical growth within the wider SLR team.
  • With a passion for contaminated land assessment / management, and related interests in earth sciences, contaminated hydrogeology, or civil/ environmental engineering, you will work with likeminded individuals and enjoy excellent career opportunities across a range of industry sectors.
  • Your tasks will include but not limit:
  • Gaining confidence with collection of field data for a range of environmental media, and developing site assessment programs.
  • Preparing and implementing work health and safety (WH&S) project plans.
  • Flexibility and willingness for travelling to remote locations for fieldworks.
  • Desktop information searches and interpretation.
  • Learning to analyse / interpret contaminated site observation and data in the context of development conceptual site models (CSMs) for risk management.
  • Assistance with preparation of contaminated land assessment reports and associated quality assurance / quality control (QA/QC) requirements.

We will also consider someone just finishing their studies with the right attitude to learn and develop from an experienced team.

Skills & Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have:
  • A professional science qualification (preferably environmental / earth sciences, including geology, soils, physical geography, hydrogeology) or other relevant degree with circa 0-2 years professional experience in consulting or similar industry role.
  • Willingness to become proficient in environmental / contamination field investigations for soil, groundwater and ground gas within a range of sectors.
  • The ability to analyse and interpret complex situations/problems and develop appropriate solutions in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivation and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Excellent driving history and hold a current unrestricted driver's license.
  • Australia Citizenship or rights to work in Australia.
