The BioNano Engineering Group at Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, headed by Dr Ljiljana Fruk and her team are seeking a Research Associate for the research involving improved enzymes will be combined with nanoparticle catalysts and novel bioprocessing technologies to deliver efficient pathways for upcycling captured carbon into high value products. The role will involve development of nanozymes, chemical synthesis, surface modification, immobilisation and contributing to the development of a scalable CO2 upcycling strategy and engineering a method on upcycling into higher-value products demonstrating the potential to make a significant contribution to the advancement of functional materials. Duties include developing the research objectives and proposals and writing up the research for presentation and publication.

The successful candidate will have a PhD, and will have experience in organic chemical synthesis, (bio)functionalisation of nanoparticles, nanozyme design and enzyme screening. Extensive experience with organic synthesis and an interest in and familiarity with nanomaterial biofunctionalisation is essential. Hands-on experience in chromatography and analytical methods such as spectroscopy, NMR and mass spectrometry are desirabe.

The ability to work both as part of a team, and independently, coupled with excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills are essential to this role. More information on the role and person specification is available on the Further Particulars attached.
