Alpheus, a key subsidiary of the Anglian Water Group, owns and operates a network of liquid waste recycling centres across the region. We work with public and private sector clients, providing fully compliant, environmentally responsible waste treatment services.

As part of our ongoing commitment to operational excellence and environmental stewardship, we’re looking for a Waste Management & Recycling (WMR) Site Supervisor to run the day-to-day operations at one of our Waste Treatment Centres. The treatment plant operator is sometimes described as a Site Chemist - where you’ll have sole responsibility in a stand-alone role for supervising the reception, testing, treatment, and discharge of tankered liquid waste in compliance with environmental and health & safety regulations.

Whilst you will mainly be working alone on site, you’ll closely collaborate with the office-based planning team, build relationships with customers who need wastewater treated & you’ll have the experience of 3 peers across other waste management sites in the region to fall back on when you don’t have all the answers.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Test and assess waste streams to determine suitability for treatment.
  • Manage the blending, processing and discharging of effluent to meet Trade Effluent Agreement standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, including Duty of Care and hazardous waste documentation.
  • Carry out routine maintenance, cleaning and equipment checks.
  • Ensure operations meet all Environmental Agency permits and ISO procedures.
  • Work closely with customers, regulators and Anglian Water teams to ensure excellent service and compliance.
  • Support continuous site improvements, working safely committing to our Safer Every Day culture.

What does it take to be a Waste Management & Recycling Site Supervisor for Alpheus?

  • CIWM (WAMITAB) Level 4 Certificate in Hazardous Waste Treatment (or a good understanding of what this entails & a willingness to train).
  • At least 2 years’ experience in waste management or a related field (e.g., water treatment, environmental science or landfills with hazardous waste treatment on site).
  • Good understanding of environmental regulations and health & safety practices.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial equipment and maintenance.
  • Confident with maths & scientific principles to use basic lab equipment for waste testing.
  • Excellent organisational, communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable working in a busy, outdoor, and regulated environment.
  • IOSH or equivalent health & safety certification. (Desirable)

As a valued employee, you’ll be entitled to:

  • Be part of a forward-thinking company making a real difference in environmental management.
  • Work within a supportive, knowledgeable team committed to safety, sustainability and service excellence.
  • Continuous learning and opportunities for professional development.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
