Plastik Ai is harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to revolutionise the plastic and plastic compounding industries, bridging the gap between engineers using plastics and manufacturers creating them. At the core of our platform is Herman, an advanced tool-using AI agent designed to match product requirements with ideal plastic compounds. Herman leverages a combination of public and proprietary data to enable rapid and precise material recommendations, which can be easily ordered within a marketplace.
We are looking for a skilled AI/ML Engineer to play a key role in building the AI agents and agentic tools that fine-tune and optimise open source LLM models to add value to design engineers and manufacturing companies. Our product is an innovative two-sided marketplace augmented by AI tools enabling easy plastic selection, sourcing, and logistics. This transformative approach unlocks new possibilities in sustainable plastics innovation, enabling faster, smarter, and more efficient product development and material discovery.
As part of our cross-disciplinary team, you will work alongside MIT-trained engineers, scientists, and business professionals to build a groundbreaking AI platform for the plastics industry. Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with application software and user experience teams to develop new AI-enabled plastic search and application feedback tools to support business-critical workflows.
- Agent Development - Train, fine-tune, preference engineer, optimise (distill/quantize) and evaluate open source and frontier multi-modal models to optimise response time for complex reasoning tasks, expert plastic knowledge, and lower operational costs.
- AI/ML Ops - Monitor and continually improve production AI agents (A/B testing) and agentic tools leveraging internally on-premise compute cluster and cloud computing infrastructure.
- Innovation - Staying up-to-date with the latest trends, updates, and developments within the AI/ML ecosystem to propose innovative solutions and enhancements.
- Data Curation - Continually extend and improve plastics-specific training and testing datasets.
- Project Management - Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, project managers, and quality assurance, to gather requirements, provide technical insights, and ensure successful project delivery.
- Production Development - Participating in code reviews to ensure best practices, coding standards, and quality assurance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related fields, or equivalent professional experience.
- 3+ years of experience as an AI Engineer, Software Engineer or Technical Lead.
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
- Experience with building systems hosting LLMs (Llama, Mistral, Qwen, Deepseek) and APIs (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini).
- Knowledge of API development, third-party integrations, and automation.
- Familiarity with IT security, cloud hosting, and DevOps best practices.
- Ability to fine-tune, optimise, and scale software systems.
- Strong leadership and project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a fast-paced environment.
