agendaNi, Northern Ireland’s leading public policy and business magazine, is seeking a Senior Journalist to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to write for a respected publication that informs policymakers, business leaders, and senior decision-makers in Northern Ireland.
The successful candidate will be an experienced journalist with the ability to deliver several projects concurrently, a track record of original journalism, and a comprehensive grasp of media law.
Knowledge, skills, training, and experience
- Extensive editorial experience and strong news judgment, with the ability to operate calmly under pressure
- A track record in delivering original, high-impact journalism
- Experience managing people, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a keenness to collaborate internally and externally
- A strong grasp of media law
- The ability to produce in-depth analytical material to tight deadlines
- Experience interviewing senior business and policy leaders, with confidence in handling high-profile sources
- A highly motivated, self-starting attitude with resilience and determination
- Strong proofreading skills and the ability to write clear, concise copy for multiple platforms
- An understanding of audiences and how to optimise content across platforms
- A deep understanding of politics, current affairs, and key policy issues in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead on major stories, providing in-depth analysis of public policy, current affairs, and business developments.
- Produce well-researched, analytical articles, balancing insight and accuracy.
- Conduct high-profile interviews with senior business, political, and policy leaders.
- Help shape the magazine’s editorial strategy, identifying key trends and subjects.
- Ensure high journalistic standards across print and digital content.
- Mentor junior journalists, providing editorial guidance and support.
- Engage with audiences online, ensuring content is optimised for digital platforms.
- Actively contribute to and lead editorial meetings.
- Provide forward planning and production support.
- Work mostly at base but on location as required.
