Excellent opportunity for a Oracle SQL Server Database Administrator (remote) to join leading banking organisation.
You will play a key role in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of their UK distributed database estate, working across multiple database platforms and supporting critical banking services.
What You’ll Do:
In this role, you will be responsible for the proactive support and maintenance of the bank’s database environments, working with a range of database technologies, predominantly Oracle and SQL Server.
Your tasks will include:
- Database Support and Maintenance: Delivering effective support for critical services, with a focus on availability, performance, and security across production and non-production environments.
- Incident Management and Troubleshooting: Investigating and resolving defects, incidents, and problems. Collaborate with Lead Database Engineers and other teams as needed to ensure issues are addressed within agreed SLAs.
- Database Administration: Performing lifecycle management tasks, including database provisioning, patching, upgrading, backup, and recovery. Manage user access, conduct monitoring, and implement alerting to maintain operational health.
- Optimisation and Tuning: Applying performance tuning and optimisation techniques to ensure databases operate efficiently.
- Collaboration and Change Management: Working closely with colleagues, project teams, and external partners to support and manage changes safely and efficiently within the database environment.
- On-Call and Out-of-Hours Support: After a period of training, you will join a 24/7 on-call rotation, providing out-of-hours support as needed (additional compensation applies).
Your background and experience:
- Database Administration Expertise: Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Oracle and SQL Server in a production environment.
- Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve production issues, with skills in making recommendations for system changes.
- Full Database Lifecycle Management: Experience with database builds, patching, upgrades, and an understanding of High Availability and Disaster Recovery methods.
- Operating System Proficiency: Understanding / familiarity with the likes of Oracle, Red Hat Linux, Windows, AIX, and Solaris.
- Performance Tuning and Optimisation: Expertise in database performance tuning to ensure optimal performance.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team and manage relationships with stakeholders.
- Flexibility and Ownership: Willingness to work beyond core hours when required, with a strong commitment to professional development.
Nice to Have Skills:
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL and Grid Infrastructure.
- Experience with Oracle Data Guard and Oracle Cloud Control.
- Familiarity with Flashback technologies for data recovery.
- Awareness of ITIL Service Management processes (Incident, Change & Problem Management).
