We are looking for a mechanic to join our Fleet Management Team.
We maintain and service a variety of vehicles from specialist HGV municipal vehicles to vans. We also provide maintenance for plant equipment including ride on grass mowers to leaf blowers at our Depot at Claro Road, Harrogate.
Our Service
We operate a fleet of about 850 vehicles across North Yorkshire. Our fleet consist of a variety of vehicles from refuse collection vehicles, gritters, road sweepers, minibuses, tippers, cars and vans, and operate about 200 vehicles on our Goods Operator Licence and 105 minibuses on Transport Act Permits. We also work closely with NY Highways Ltd and other Brierley Group Companies and provide a maintenance service to those companies where required. North Yorkshire Council have four MOT testing stations where we undertake the MOT tests to Department for Transport (DfT) and Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) standards.
The safety of vehicles is of critical importance to the safety of employees, passengers, residents and other road users and it is vital that maintenance is undertaken effectively and consistently to ensure the Council meets it Operator Licence and Permit undertakings.
The Role
As our Mechanic you will work on a fleet that consists of a variety of vehicles from refuse collection vehicles, gritters, road sweepers, minibuses, tippers, cars and vans, providing hands-on maintenance and repair of vehicles, plants and workshop equipment to the required standard. You may be required to attend vehicles that have broken down at the roadside, off site and undertake repairs where possible throughout the Harrogate area. You will also conduct MOT tests (when qualified) on our state-of-the-art test ramps as required, and ensure all documents meet the required standards at all times.
You’ll be working in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate should also have good written and basic IT keyboard skills for our state-of-the-art diagnostic and electronic work system.
Weekend working is on a ADHOC basis for this you will receive an additional £30 per day on top of your normal salary.
What you will bring
You will have a good understanding of health and safety requirements in a workshop environment, in-depth knowledge of vehicle maintenance and required operating standards, as well as significant experience of vehicle maintenance, repair and diagnostics.
You will also require:
- City and Guilds Vehicle Maintenance and repair; Level 3 or BTEC National Certificate in Vehicle repair and technology; NVQ level 3 vehicle maintenance and repair Mechanical & Electrical.
- Willingness to undertake MOT testing certificate for Class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles
- Willingness to undertake training for a DVSA accepted qualification or accreditation C1, C1+E, C+E, D1, D category driving licence
