The Role
This is a new role within the Application Development & Release team reporting into the Head of Product and Engineering. The main purpose of the role will be to lead the successful delivery of the Deposits roadmap to meet FSCS\’ strategic goals. This will include planning, coordination, and supervising all activities related to technical design, development, implementation, quality assurance, and support.
The Application Development and Support Manager is also responsible for managing and providing direction for the Development Team in support of business operations. As well as ensuring alignment with FSCS vision, mission, values and strategic priorities.
Key Priorities
Application Strategy & Planning
Work closely with the Product Manager, Business stakeholders and Product teams to collate and evaluate feedback and proposals from across the business from a technical context, in order to identify potential problem areas, and make the appropriate recommendations for continual improvement in FSCS applications services
Ensure that development project requirements and plans meet the IT strategic goals and plan, and fulfil end-user requirements and acceptance criteria
Review and analyse existing application effectiveness and efficiency and develop plans for improving or leveraging these systems to greater effect
Development & Release Management
Provide technical leadership to the business, CDITO team and development teams
Own and plan demand management for IT application development and deployment services, ensuring the needs of business requirements, project requirements, IT maintenance and IT BAU support are managed
When required, recruit and manage an application team of interim /specialist resources, in order to respond to project/business demand
Operational Management
Direct the identification and resolution of application issues and errors, liaising with the wider CDITO team to triage IT Incidents ensuring all incidents, problems and change requests follow the FSCS processes
Lead the design, develop, and installation of application patches, enhancements and upgrades to the FSCS systems and application suite to maintain system stability and support levels
Manage the maintenance of FSCS IT systems and solutions policies, standards and controls, consistent with good practice and in alignment with the FSCS IT strategic direction
Management of team
Provide the team with technical support and guidance in order to ensure compliance with set procedures and requirements
Deliver regular reviews of progress against objectives for team members and take action to address issues when required
Manage and provide direction for the Development Team in support of business operations
CDITO Team
Provide a positive contribution to enable the wider CDITO objectives to be achieved
Clearly communicate cross-organisation decisions, standards, and discussions to IT staff and relevant suppliers
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other teams in the CDITO
Information Security and Data Protection related responsibilities
Adhere to FSCS policies including Information Security, Data Protection, Acceptable Use as well as relevant supporting documents
Ensure that procedures for Information Security and Data Handling
Ensure that Data Handling is handled securely and in accordance with its classification
Knowledge, skills and experience
This role would suit someone highly analytical with exceptional problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills. We\’re looking for someone who can demonstrate the following knowledge and experience:
Extensive knowledge of implementing and supporting CRM / Case Management applications and integrating these with web and back-office applications in a high data volume environment
Working knowledge of Azure Cloud Resource Management, Cost Management, Development and Data services
Knowledge on CI/CD practice and the various components that are required to achieve it: version control, branching strategies, builds, release pipelines, automated testing, infrastructure as code and configuration as code
Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required
Demonstrable experience of technical application solution architecture, development, delivery and support
Experience of delivering successful Siebel (and preferably MS Dynamics) implementations within Financial Services / Insurance
Mentoring and developing individuals around the adoption of Security in application development
