As a Senior Quantity Surveyor at London Gatwick, you will have the opportunity to work on the full project life cycle, surrounded by knowledgeable people, with one goal: investing in projects that serve our customers and facilitate our growth.
Reporting to the Programme Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in the Construction team, responsible for developing and maintaining cost plans and cost estimates for larger projects (typically £1m - £10m), working on complex projects from inception through to completion.
You will be joining an innovative team, encouraged to think outside the box and trusted to deliver complex projects, utilising your surveying and problem-solving skills. As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for developing and managing cost plans to ensure the financial efficiency and feasibility of construction projects.
Your duties will include:
- Preparing detailed budgets and cost estimates at various project stages, from initial concept to final construction, including internal costs.
- Controlling project costs and preventing overruns by tracking expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Conducting accurate measurements, rate analysis, and risk assessments.
- Regularly updating cost plans to reflect design changes and market conditions.
- Collaborating with project stakeholders to ensure projects are completed within budget and provide optimal value.
- Supporting the development of appropriate procurement strategies and running procurement exercises.
- Administering contracts for design and construction contracts as they are awarded, including change management.
- Accurately reporting on spend, anticipated final cost and forecasting future months' expenditures through to completion.
What are we looking for?
The live environment at London Gatwick requires all our teams to have a flexible and adaptable approach, with problem-solving skills and an innovative outlook. Involved in projects from inception to completion, you will work alongside multiple stakeholders. In addition, this role requires:
- Previous experience in a cost engineering, contract management or commercial role within the construction or infrastructure sectors working on projects typically over £5 million.
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering, construction, or business-related field.
- Full working knowledge and understanding of using web-based contract management tools (e.g. Cemar).
- Thorough understanding of NEC suite of contracts, and associated contract administration and negotiations.
