An opportunity has arisen for a laboratory technician to join our metallurgical assessment team carrying out the preparation of materials and the optical microscopy of components and test pieces to support manufacturing quality control, supplier approval and failure investigation.

Required skills and experience:

  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Degree or HND in science / engineering preferred.
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment preferably metallurgy related would be beneficial.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

You will manage the preparation, testing, reporting and outgoing of samples for sorting, filing and management of both electronic and hard copy documents. In addition, you will engage in a wide range of laboratory and administrative activities to ensure efficient and effective technical support is provided.

Key activities:

  • Receive, collect items, samples for testing or examination and record in the relevant booking in system.
  • Prepare samples and carry out assessments against client specifications using optical microscopy.
  • Manage personal workloads to ensure KPI turnaround time targets are maintained.
  • Carry out routine quality control checks on microscope equipment and maintain logs.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained to a high standard.
  • Produce simple technical reports using Microsoft Office and report to client.
