We have an exciting opportunity for a B5 to B6 Physiotherapist or a B6 experienced physiotherapist to join East Durham integrated team. You will be a member of the Integrated Learning Disabilities Community teams, working alongside other experienced Physiotherapists, Physiotherapist Associate Practitioners and Assistant Physiotherapists. As part of a very well-established multi-disciplinary team, you will work closely with other professions. This post would be suitable for experienced physiotherapists or newly qualified and/or band 5 Physiotherapists with transferable skills with the aim to progress to a band 6 Specialist Physiotherapist upon successfully meeting the criteria within the Band 6 job description and competency framework. The successful candidate will benefit from being part of a large group of Physiotherapy staff working in Learning Disabilities and Mental health across TEWV Trust services, with guidance from Clinical Leads, Clinical Specialists, and the Professional Head of Physiotherapy. You will be HCPC registered.

Main duties of the job:

  • You will be an autonomous qualified physiotherapist providing assessment, treatment planning and provision for adults with learning disabilities who have complex physical and psychological needs.
  • Undertake service user physiotherapy assessments, co-create physiotherapy goals, and deliver physiotherapy intervention.
  • Review physiotherapy interventions in collaboration with service users and family as part of the Multidisciplinary Team to promote independence and wellbeing.
  • Promote and maintain safety, privacy and dignity of all patients in the delivery of patient-centred care, recognising and respecting differences including spiritual and cultural beliefs.
  • Recognise diversity and apply anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive principles in practice.
  • Ensure physiotherapy interventions are based on current risk assessment, evidence-based practice, critical thinking and whole system support requirements that take account of relevant physical, social, cultural, psychological, spiritual, genetic and environmental factors.
  • Monitor and evaluate physiotherapy treatment utilising relevant outcome measures where appropriate, responding appropriately to feedback from service users, carers and others.
  • Modify physiotherapy treatment plans to ensure effectiveness of clinical interventions in order to review progress and ensure effectiveness of clinical interventions.

Job responsibilities:

Responsible for ensuring active engagement within all developmental opportunities and supervision including competency framework to support clinical progression from band 5 to band 6 within a 12-year timeframe where applicable. Please refer to the attached B5 and B6 job description and person specification for further detailed information to ensure that you meet the role criteria before applying.

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications: Appropriate professional qualification in Physiotherapy or pending; Current relevant registration with HCPC or pending.
  • Experience: Experience of supporting people with mental health issues, learning disability or autism; Member of the CSP; Experience of working in a variety of practice areas whilst on student placements or postgraduate; Experience of working in Multidisciplinary Team.
  • Knowledge: Awareness of professional standards and their application to practice; Understanding of the needs of service users with mental health conditions and/or learning disabilities; Understanding and awareness of MHA / MCA.
  • Skills: Collaborating with service users and carers/families in accordance with principles of coproduction; Apply latest research evidence and evaluative thinking in practice; Experience of providing effective teaching, training; Experience of providing Clinical supervision.
