We\’re on the lookout for a Site Chemist to join our team at Darlington, helping us safely manage and process hazardous waste in an industry that keeps the UK moving.
Location: Darlington
Hours: Monday to Friday (early or late shifts) 40 hours per week
Salary: £27000 – £35000 per annum

This role would suit someone with hazardous waste experience .
As part of the hazardous waste team – you will play a central role in the safe supervision of incoming and outgoing waste – and provide technical support to the rest of the business.
All of our team at Total , adopt a flexible attitude to work – to accomplish Company and Customer requirements and goals. In that respect, you will need to be willing to contribute wherever required , including site visits , customer meetings, supporting our Industrial Service and Transport teams with advice – and carrying out chem-pack and listing work wherever required .
Your core responsibilities.
- Advising the technical assessment and sales team where required
- Overseeing the receipt and dispatch of wastes and ensuring the high standards of our duty of care regime are maintained
- Sampling and assessing all wastes as required by our permit and associated guidance
- Supervising staff and advising on all aspects of operation in the transfer station
- Managing and undertaking the processing of lab smalls and difficult wastes
- Working with the SHE Manager and Operations Director to ensure all operations are carried out with the highest regard to Health , Safety and Environment.
Requirements
- You must have an HNC ( or equivalent) for this role.
- Continued support and ongoing training is part of working at our Company.
- WAMITAB would be beneficial ,however not an immediate requirement.
- If you have an HNC and an interest in pursuing this qualification – we can discuss support for this .
- The facility operates on an early/late shift rota – alternating weekly or by agreement with colleagues .
- Any applicant will be expected to operate under this scheme ( 06:00 – 14:30 and 09:30 – 18:00) in due course.
