Your Mission:
This role will be to lead teams to deliver key infrastructure-related engineering activities. You will coordinate across electrical disciplines, supporting the organisation in the planning, supervision, and review of design documentation. The role includes managing technical interfaces and ensuring effective integration with both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead multi-discipline engineering coordination
- Chair design reviews, working groups, and meetings with consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Design substantiation ownership
- Develop, author, assess, and manage the Nuclear Infrastructure Design Substantiation suite.
- Control design integrity
- Manage design changes and concessions, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Support through-life safety case
- Produce Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) schedules and operating procedures to satisfy long-term safety and design intent.
- Engage with nuclear safety governance
- Present substantiations to the clients ‘Due Process’ nuclear safety committees and support safety case submissions.
- Technical oversight and assurance
- Review and approve contractor reports, civil/structural justifications, and calculations. Conduct Independent Technical Assessments (ITA) and Peer Reviews (IPR).
- Contribute to Periodic Reviews of Safety (PRS)
- Develop reports supporting continued safe operation and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
Essential Criteria:
- Strong knowledge of British and European design standards and current engineering practices
- Solid understanding of High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems
- Proven experience across concept, detailed design, and construction phases on electrical engineering projects—ideally within industrial or maritime environments
- Skilled in assessing electrical plant and equipment for hazard resilience
- Demonstrated ability to author robust technical justifications to support electrical design modifications in high-hazard industries
- Familiarity with industrial systems such as pumps, generators, HVAC, SCADA, PAVA systems, etc.
- Experience contributing electrical expertise to multi-discipline projects, ideally within defence and/or maritime sectors
Desirable Criteria:
- Previous experience working within a high-risk, regulated environment
- Understanding of safety case development methodologies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP)
- Experience in the UK nuclear industry (civil or defence), particularly in the design/assessment of safety-related structures, systems, and components (SSCs)
- Knowledge of UK and US nuclear regulatory frameworks, and application of nuclear-specific codes and standards
Additional Information:
Due to the nature of this role the successful candidate will require Security clearance. To gain this they will be required to be a Sole UK national, Hybrid working from home/Assystem Office. Benefits include: Pension scheme (8% company contribution / 4% personal contribution), 25 days’ paid annual leave + bank holidays + option to buy or sell days, Professional fees reimbursed, Flexible working, Employee referral scheme, Predominantly WFH. Monthly travel to site for some key meetings is required.
