Social network you want to login/join with: We have an immediate contract requirement for a Metering Specialist to work for our market-leading renewable energy client. This role is expected to last at least 12 months and will be based up to 50% of the working week at our client’s central London head office. As a Metering Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end metering lifecycle, including installation, maintenance, performance monitoring, and compliance with industry regulations. You will work closely with internal teams, third-party suppliers, and regulatory bodies to ensure metering systems operate efficiently and provide a seamless experience for customers, acting as the subject matter expert for metering within our client’s UK operation. Key Responsibilities Act as the national Metering and communications subject matter expert within our client’s UK operation and support regional teams with project construction. Maintain metering requirements and standards for construction projects and maintenance operations, ensuring compatibility with internal processes including commercial, operations, asset management, and legal requirements. Provide expert knowledge in Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). Support project teams during initial design stages with advice on hardware, controls, and metering equipment selection to enhance reliability and maintainability. Implement and review metering strategies to meet current and future business needs. Manage relationships concerning metering contracts. Contribute to the development of maintenance strategies and concepts for metering assets. Provide industry leadership and influence policy, technical guidelines, and standards. Operations Participate in regional planning for major maintenance operations. Establish and manage a reporting system on metering performance. Provide metering training for engineering and operational teams. Review acceptance tests and commissioning of metering systems. Manage the HPAN register and maintain the central database of metering assets. Support commissioning of AMR equipment and act as an escalation point for issues. Manage warranty information and lead warranty claims. Report operational performance of metering assets nationally. Compliance Ensure compliance with Heat Network Metering and Billing Regulations and technical assurance schemes. Maintain health and safety, technical integrity, and quality standards, including authority approvals. Maintain proper documentation and records related to metering. Compile and report metering data for internal and external stakeholders. Qualifications and Experience • Engineering degree or formal Electronics/Controls qualification such as Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent. • Over 5 years of experience working with metering in utilities and operational environments. • Experience with network infrastructure, architecture, and administration. Knowledge and Skills • Strong personal impact, customer orientation, entrepreneurial spirit, and business acumen. • Ability to translate technical requirements into commercial impact and manage risks. • Good understanding of operational requirements from a commercial and technical perspective. • Excellent communication and presentation skills. • Ability to influence stakeholders including authorities, developers, and energy partners. • Risk management skills, understanding of commercial and technical risks. • Knowledge of customer needs and drivers. • Strong engineering skills with commercial awareness. • Knowledge of regulatory and legislative requirements. • Understanding of zero carbon solutions and policy trends.
