Job Overview: We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Behaviour Mentor / Learning Support Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with students who require additional support in managing their behaviour and learning needs, helping them to access the curriculum and develop key social and emotional skills. The role is designed to support students who may be at risk of exclusion or have additional emotional and behavioural challenges. Key Responsibilities: Provide targeted support to students with challenging behaviour, ensuring they remain engaged in lessons and their learning environment. Work closely with students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, helping them to manage their behaviour and focus on their academic progress. Develop and implement positive behaviour strategies, promoting self-regulation and appropriate behaviour. Support the development and delivery of tailored learning plans for students with additional behavioural needs. Monitor and record students progress, behaviour, and emotional well-being, reporting back to teachers, SENCOs, and other relevant staff. Help create and maintain a calm, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment for all students. Act as a positive role model, encouraging students to improve their behaviour and work towards achieving their personal goals. Provide emotional and social support to students, helping them develop coping strategies and interpersonal skills. Liaise with parents, carers, and outside agencies to provide a holistic approach to supporting students. Assist in creating and adapting learning resources and activities to ensure students with behavioural challenges can access the curriculum. Lead small group interventions for students who need additional support in managing their emotions or behaviour. Support and advise staff on how to manage specific behavioural issues, offering guidance on strategies to be used in the classroom. Requirements: Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational setting, particularly with those who have behavioural or emotional difficulties. A calm, patient, and resilient approach to working with challenging students. Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. Experience of implementing behaviour management strategies effectively. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet in challenging situations. A commitment to promoting inclusion and supporting the social and emotional development of students. Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent) are desirable. Experience with specific interventions or approaches (e.g., Restorative Justice, social skills training, anger management) is beneficial. Desirable Qualifications and Experience: Training in behaviour management or restorative practice. Experience working with children or young people with SEND or SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs. First Aid training. Safeguarding training. A qualification or experience in mentoring, counselling, or youth work is advantageous.
