About the Role: We are working with a leading national law firm seeking a Database Developer to join their expanding internal systems team in Guildford. This role will play a crucial part in enhancing the firm’s data infrastructure, with a particular focus on database optimisation and design to support key legal, operational, and compliance functions. You will be responsible for improving performance, streamlining database architecture, and ensuring data systems are robust, scalable, and future-proofed for a data-driven legal environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, optimise, and maintain SQL-based databases used across the firm.
  • Refactor and fine-tune existing queries, tables, and stored procedures for performance improvements.
  • Collaborate with IT, finance, compliance, and practice groups to support data-driven reporting needs.
  • Support data governance initiatives and ensure security, confidentiality, and integrity across systems.
  • Play a central role in the evolution of the firm’s internal data ecosystem.
  • Assist with migration and integration of legacy systems into a more modern, optimised database structure.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Database Developer, ideally within a professional services or regulated environment.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of SQL Server (including performance tuning, indexing, query optimisation).
  • Experience in database architecture and design, ideally with exposure to legal or case management systems.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into scalable database solutions.
  • Experience working with stakeholders across various business functions.
  • Knowledge of ETL processes and integration between business-critical systems is a plus.
