Senior Commercial Underwriter - New Business

Opportunity to be part of a National Commercial Underwriting function Receive ongoing training, career progression, and personal growth Hybrid homeworking available with two days per week from our Bristol office About the role: We have an exciting opportunity for a diligent Insurance Commercial Underwriter to join our New Business team as a Senior Commercial Underwriter. You’ll be responsible for evaluating and assessing complex risks across various business classes, including Motor Trade, Farm, Estates, and Commercial Select products. You will also serve as a point of referral for less experienced team members, providing training, coaching, mentoring, and technical support to stakeholders. Additionally, you will support change initiatives to improve departmental processes and efficiency, and deliver short-term projects and activities. At NFU Mutual, we operate through a unique tied agency network. Our agents are the vital link with our customers. As an Underwriter, you will build strong relationships and collaborate with agents to resolve complex referrals, manage insurance risk costs, and deliver tailored solutions and services to our members. We provide a comprehensive induction, and during the first 6 months, you will be required to work full-time in the office. Post-induction, ongoing training will support your career progression and personal growth. Working hours: 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday, with shifts between 8 am and 6 pm. About you: You should be an experienced Commercial Underwriting professional with extensive new business underwriting experience across various business classes. You’ll be resilient, with effective communication skills to establish strong relationships and influence stakeholders. Key requirements include: Property & Liability Commercial Underwriting experience in the mid-market space Experience coaching, mentoring, and training colleagues Confidence in leading and influencing risk decisions Ability to make rational, logical decisions in a fast-paced environment We support an inclusive workplace and value diversity.
