Where will you be working? At M Group Highways, we’re supporting the safe transportation and movement of people across the UK. We don’t just build roads and bridges - we’re building a better future, creating lasting social value that gives back to the communities in which we work. You’ll be joining our Highways maintenance team, as the UK’s number one highway maintenance contractor, our teams use the latest innovations to create effective solutions. We offer a range of services including planned and reactive maintenance and highway improvement schemes.
What will you be doing? You’ll be supporting the Financial Controller, by managing and developing a small team. You’ll lead the month end process and timely reporting to the wider group. Support forecasting and budgeting process. The role involves completing supporting the balance sheet reconciliations process for the central team. Ensuring transparency of reporting on contingency and provisions and for WIP reporting and ageing across the projects. We’ll ask you to look after VAT, Corporation Tax returns, PAYE settlement agreement, and associated returns such as Construction Industry Training Board reporting. Assisting the wider finance team in continuous improvement of business processes by sharing best practice and maintaining strong relationships with counterparts within M Group Highways, Shared service centre and wider M Group. You’ll support the year end audit process, preparation of the company’s statutory account. Ensuring appropriate financial governance and controls are in place.
What you’ll bring:
- Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
- Able to lead and work as part of a team

- Demonstrable experience of business/process improvement
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Good Microsoft Excel skills (Pivots, key formulas – vlookups, sumifs) and good knowledge of accounting systems
- Good knowledge of accounting standards and double entry
- Enthusiastic and resourceful individual, comfortable working within a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills gained in a fast-paced working environment
- Good time management to ensure that deadlines are met
- Ability to solve problems, to prioritise and multi-task
- Self-starter who can manage delivery of information from stakeholders
