Job Title: Consultant – Materials Engineer (Metallurgy) Location: Barrow-in-Furness – We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role. Salary: Competitive What you’ll be doing: Provide metallurgical support to all functions, in particular Operations, Engineering and The Supply Chain on emergent issues arising during submarine build and commissioning Offer metallurgical support to Submarine design engineering teams to ensure the use of appropriate materials and the management of corrosion Support to knowledge transfer within the Materials Technology department Identify areas of research for exploitation, lead research activities and author reports Provide specialist metallurgical guidance within the department to ensure work and investigations are processed and reported in a consistent and timely manner The review and maintenance of relevant Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards and Operating Procedures Effective communication within and external to the department on the initiation and application of solutions and processes Manage with authority on forging, casting and metal forming processes Your skills and experiences: Qualified to degree level (BEng/BSc) in metallurgy or materials science Detailed knowledge on ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy Detailed knowledge and experience on metal forming and processing Experience of working with and developing a team of metallurgists Experience in the development and maintenance of metallurgical related workmanship Standards and Process Instructions Detailed knowledge of the capability and use of Metallurgical Mechanical and Metallographic testing Benefits: You’ll receive benefits including a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance and a Company contributed Share Incentive Plan. The Materials team: Currently the team comprises of over 50 specialists of Metallurgical, Polymer, Welding and materials backgrounds. The team consists of various technical levels and we are after a Consultant/Technologist to become the authority in manufacture of metallic parts (Forgings, Castings and Rolling). Why BAE Systems?
