We are a high‑achieving college recruiting a Learning Support Assistant on a permanent, annualised hours basis.
Salary: £24,617 – £24,834 per annum pro rata, dependent on qualifications.
Learning Support Assistant Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will provide cross‑college support and assistance to students who have identified learning needs.
Responsibilities
- Identify strategies for supporting individual students using student profile and tutor consultation.
- Aid students to learn effectively both in group and individually, considering particular needs.
- Contribute to student progress records by feeding back to tutor on progression, attitude and behaviour.
- Assist in administering routine tests, invigilate exams and act as reader/scribe in exams as appropriate.
- Support learning activities and develop students’ competence and independence in its use including ICT skills.
- Prepare and use equipment/resources.
- Be aware of and comply with child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality and data protection policies and report concerns.
- Support difference and ensure students have equal access to opportunities.
- Contribute to and support the overall ethos/work/aims of the College.
- Appreciate, support and respect roles of other professionals.
- Attend relevant team meetings and in‑service training.
- Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
- Assist with supervision of students outside lesson times, including before and after college timetable and at break times, as needed.
- Accompany teaching staff and students on visits, trips and off‑college activities as required and take responsibility for a group under teacher supervision.
- Take note of and comply with college HR procedures for reporting absences, lateness, etc.
Qualifications and Ideal Profile
- Educational qualifications to GCSE standard in Maths, English and ICT (C Grade).
- Able to relate well to students with a diverse range of needs.
- Willingness to undertake a relevant learning support qualification.
- Punctual and reliable.
- Ability to communicate and establish rapport with young people and colleagues.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
