Purpose of the Job:
HCL are leading contract caterers with a focus on school feeding. We have a commitment to deliver high-quality, nutritious, and engaging food experiences for children and staff across our primary schools, secondary schools, and commercial sites. As the Payroll Manager at HCL, you will lead our Payroll function as we expand our portfolio across London and the South of England, and look to drive retention of core customers in Hertfordshire and neighbouring counties.

Key Duties:
Payroll
- Ensure each stage of the payroll process complies with due process and procedures, that queries are resolved and timescales are met, to ensure that staff are paid correctly at each payroll run.
- Lead on Payroll year end activities.
- Ensure data integrity and consistency in data standards across the Payroll and HR records, including adherence to the Data Protection Act and GDPR and pro-active data management.
Management of our Managed Payroll Service Provider
- Responsible for ensuring that our external Managed Payroll Service Provider (MHR), carries out each stage of the payroll process.
- Ensure checks are carried out, queries are resolved and that payroll is signed off to schedule every month.
- Responsible for ensuring that our external Managed Pension Service Provider (MHR) complete the monthly/annual returns for our Pension Schemes and work with them to resolve any issues.
- Ensure that queries from our Pension Schemes are responded to in a timely manner.
Employee Pay and Reward
- Responsible for implementing pay awards, long service awards and bonuses.
- Ensure payments are made and relevant communications are sent out.
- Ensure that our iTrent system is fit for purpose, that the user experience is high on the agenda.
- Review processes to ensure they are streamlined and automated as much as possible.
Payroll Data
- Analyse and report on payroll data to ensure that our approach to payroll and people management is data and insight driven.
Team Management and Leadership
- Lead and manage our in-house Payroll Team.
- Provide leadership within the HR and Payroll Teams.
- Support and develop Team members, in order to increase knowledge, share best practice and to ensure that relevant professional standards are met.
Pay and Reward Projects
- Support pay and reward projects throughout the full employee life-cycle.

Person Specification:
- Relevant recent experience of working in Payroll in a lead role
- Comprehensive knowledge of iTrent Payroll and HR System
- Excellent standard of written and oral communication skills, with thorough and methodical attention to detail
- Experience of working effectively with stakeholders
- Experience of working with multiple sets of terms and conditions
- Strong understanding and knowledge of Payroll and HR data and analytics
- Good knowledge of employment regulations and best practice
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise, problem-solve and use your initiative
- A pro-active attitude and a passion for leading with integrity
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, approachable manner.
- A curious mindset, to think innovatively and rationally about concerns and come up with creative solutions
- A keen analytical mind and familiarity with data focused work, with the ability to review Payroll and HR data to identify trends
- Ability to use MS Office software packages competently with excellent Excel skills to enable you to analyse large sets of data
