Go back Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust Clinical Specialist – Nurse The closing date is 23 June 2025 An exciting opportunity has arisen within the North Yorkshire and York Learning Disability Intensive Support Team for a competent, confident, and enthusiastic Clinical Specialist Nurse. The successful candidate will be expected to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment and provide clinical leadership within the intensive support team, working alongside the Team Manager and utilizing skills to support team members. The post holder will be part of a newly formed team working across the North Yorkshire area, including Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Hambleton, Richmondshire, Harrogate & District, and York & Selby. The team collaborates with internal and external partners to support individuals with diagnosed learning disabilities and their families/carers, aiming to prevent mental health hospital admissions, placement breakdowns, and risks associated with behavioral presentations. The team is friendly, professional, and innovative, committed to living the trust values and enhancing the quality of life and emotional wellbeing of adults with learning disabilities. Coproduction and collaboration are key drivers of the team\’s work ethic. Strong team working is essential, requiring networking with a variety of stakeholders and working in partnership with different agencies both internal and external to the team. Main duties of the job Leading on professional development and ensuring the delivery of robust evidence-based practice. Ensuring high professional standards of nursing practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct. Providing nurse-led diagnosis and treatment planning. Undertaking ongoing audit of care and service delivery, underpinned by research and evidence-based practice. Supporting the ward or team manager and other senior clinical staff in establishing and maintaining high standards and continual improvement within the governance framework. Participating in clinical/professional and management supervision. Contributing to multidisciplinary team working. Using the System One electronic patient record system. Abiding by all Trust policies and procedures. Responding flexibly and creatively to challenges. Person Specification Qualifications Current Professional Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council – RMN / RNLD / RGN (RNSC – CAMHS Only). Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor or currently in progress of achieving. Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing Clinical Supervision or in the process of achieving. Postgraduate diploma in a relevant subject or willing to work towards and achieve within 2 years. Within the first year of post, hold a recognised qualification in a governed therapy/advanced clinical qualification (e.g., Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy, Post Grad diploma in CBT, British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, or NMP – Independent Prescriber). Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master\’s level, such as working as a band 6 (or above) in a relevant clinical area with significant experience, along with relevant CPD. Knowledge Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the practice area, regionally and nationally. Understanding of the legal framework and statutory obligations under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act. Detailed understanding of safeguarding and its application in practice. Knowledge of clinical risk assessment and management. Understanding of clinical governance principles. Working knowledge of medicines management. Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment (depending on specialist area). Experience Significant experience working with patients with complex needs in a specialist field. Experience working with patients displaying risk behaviors. Experience in clinical risk assessment and management. Experience working collaboratively with service users, families, and carers. Experience in multidisciplinary team working. Participation in quality improvement activities.
