Milton Keynes College Prison Services Team at HMP Swaleside seeks innovative Teachers/Tutors to deliver education to a diverse group of learners, helping build confidence, develop skills, and achieve success within a college environment. We are interested in candidates seeking variable hours on an ad-hoc basis who are keen to explore Prison Education. HMP Swaleside is currently looking for individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas to support curriculum delivery: Functional Skills English Functional Skills Maths ICT (Computer/Digital Skills) Mentoring Art & Design Personal Social Development Having a teaching qualification is desirable, but we also welcome applications from those willing to work towards one, especially if you hold a supporting subject specialism or industry experience. Security clearance up to CTC level is also required for prison positions. About HMP Swalesideβ¦ HMP Swaleside is a Category B prison holding approximately 950 adult male sentenced offenders. Located on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, it is part of a cluster of three prisons near the Elmley Nature Reserve. The education department offers a welcoming, college-like environment within the prison. The focus is on reducing reoffending and preparing offenders for release through accredited programs, vocational training, and education, in a pro-social environment. Courses include Maths, English, IT, ESOL, Art, Music, Multi-Skills, Personal Development, and Catering, supported by dedicated Learning Support staff. Learners are encouraged to participate in projects such as the Koestler Awards, a nationwide art competition that showcases talent from the justice system. Learners from HMP Swaleside have won awards and been featured at the Southbank Centre. The education hours are Monday to Thursday, 9:00 am β 11:30 am and 2:00 pm β 4:30 pm, and Fridays 9:00 am β 11:30 am. Staff work on-site from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday-Thursday and 8:00 am to 12:30 pm on Friday. Class sizes typically range from 8-12 learners.
