Summary: This role involves delivering hands-on technical expertise across the installation, basic training, maintenance, troubleshooting, and customer support for a range of laboratory instrumentation and systems. As a key member of the service and support team, the Field Service Engineer will ensure timely, effective, and professional support to clients, helping maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and upholding the technical reputation of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the installation, maintenance, servicing, and technical support of laboratory instruments and systems.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams during the pre-installation/site planning process.
  • Perform inspections, installation, system setup, testing, and configuration to meet specifications.
  • Deliver basic operator training to end-users at customer sites.
  • Respond to breakdowns and carry out scheduled maintenance visits.
  • Provide remote and on-site fault diagnosis and technical support.
  • Execute system validation procedures to certifiable standards.
  • Handle laboratory tasks, including running samples when required.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation and produce technical reports.
  • Travel frequently within the UK and Ireland, with occasional international assignments.

Requirements:

  • Experience in field service work preferred, but not essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients.
  • Professional appearance and high standard of personal presentation.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive attitude with the ability to work under pressure and troubleshoot effectively.

  • Qualification at HNC/HND level or equivalent in electronic/electrical engineering or demonstrable equivalent experience from industry or academia.

  • Strong computer literacy, including experience with data system hardware and common operating systems.
