We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Test Manager to join our dynamic team. This role will be responsible for both leading a team of test engineers and actively participating in the testing of the Network Cloud platform to ensure it meets the highest quality standards. The Network Cloud platform is a private cloud that is being deployed into our exchanges specifically to host NFV and network apps. It’s critically important and is one of BT’s future strategic platforms. BT’s goal is to have all the services we offer (where appropriate) running on this platform, including BT’s 5G core mobile network and ESN services. It is therefore vital that Network Cloud is built using the best technology and implemented using industry best practices.

This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of cloud technologies and testing methodologies. The role will be a technical engineering role with a primary focus on setting up a robust testing regime, identifying and contributing tests and working with other members of the team to identify the root cause of issues when tests are unsuccessful. The role will also work with other SMEs across Network Cloud and wider to support testing in all the engineering verticals, challenging those SMEs to improve their own testing processes and potentially get involved in working with tenants on application layer test plans. This role is hybrid (3 days in office) and is based in BT's Manchester office.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive test strategies and plans for cloud platforms.
  • Lead and manage a team of test engineers, providing guidance and support to ensure effective testing processes.
  • Actively participate in the planning, design, execution, and reporting of tests to ensure platform quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate with development, QA, and project management teams to coordinate testing efforts and ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to cloud platform testing.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in cloud testing.
  • Continuously improve testing processes and methodologies – evaluating test processes for inefficiencies or gaps.
  • Manage test environments, ensuring they are properly configured and maintained.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on testing progress and outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Develop testing frameworks and recommend improvements in testing practices and team skills.
  • Continuously develop and share with the team knowledge on emerging trends and changes in QA engineering.
  • Support the implementation of ways to improve working processes within the area of QA engineering through data analysis to identify issues and areas of improvements.

Skills & Experience Required for the Role:

  • Experience in a testing role, as well as a managerial role.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux, cloud platforms (OpenStack/VMWare) and cloud testing methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with automated testing tools, frameworks and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with networking and/or computer science, and desirably, a qualification such as CCNA / JNCIA or relevant degree.
  • Familiarity with programming concepts and patterns, such as classes, methods, functional vs object-oriented.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Juju, MaaS, OVS, OVN, DPDK.
