Are you ready to make an impact in a hi-tech industry for a high-profile organisation, working in a high performing team on projects of national importance? Assystem is recruiting experienced Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Design Engineers to work on our customers\’ site in Derby.

You will work within the safety-critical firmware development team across all design phases of the firmware lifecycle. The team uses agile SCRUM methods to develop high integrity firmware applications, adopting the latest state-of-the-art toolsets.

Your missions:

You will follow a DevOps-based firmware development lifecycle to deliver customer requirements by:

  • Developing high-level firmware requirements using DOORS
  • Creating architectural designs
  • Defining low-level requirements and detailed designs
  • Writing VHDL and Verilog HDL code using Sigasi Studio
  • Simulating HDL designs at unit, integration, and system levels using Mentor Graphics QuestaSIM
  • Undertaking synthesis, place and route, and static timing analysis using Synopsis Synplify, targeting Xilinx FPGAs
  • Developing Python scripts for process automation
  • Operating continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) toolsets
  • Managing change control and configuration management using GIT

You will be expected to engage in the continued improvement of our firmware development process, aiming for cost and timescale reduction and quality enhancement.

Qualifications/Skills to be successful:

  • Degree or HND in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic about learning new techniques and tools
  • Experienced hardware engineer with programming skills
  • Proficient in digital electronics design
  • Experienced in programmable logic device design
  • Knowledge of real-time systems
  • Awareness of safety-critical development constraints (e.g., IEC 62566)

Additional Information:

This role requires the successful candidate to hold a minimum of a Security Check (SC) clearance without caveats. Due to the nature of work, candidates must be UK nationals or in MoD-approved cases, dual nationals from non-ITAR countries.
