The EHCP Team is structured within the Children’s Services Directorate and is managed by the Head of Access & Sufficiency. The Council has a statutory duty to provide the functions of the SEND Code of practice in Manchester. This requires that requests for EHCP's are processed in line with the SEND code of practice, EHCP's are co-produced with young people, their families and other stakeholders. All EHCP's are reviewed in line with the code of practice and statutory duties.
This role is responsible for supporting the team to ensure that young people with SEND have their needs assessed and where appropriate an EHCP is produced and maintained. The team adds value to the relationship between the Local Authority and all schools and academies across the City to support an integrated and accessible education offer.
The EHCP Co-ordinator is responsible for:
- Working in partnership with schools, support staff, parents/carers, health and social care to gather quality information in line with need and ensure the provision and placement is able to meet need and resolve issues relating to placement and provision.
- Leading the EHCP process, co-producing EHCP's and ensuring young people are placed in appropriate educational provision.
- Monitoring the progress of children and young people against the outcomes of their EHC Plan.
- Preparing cases and representing the council at mediations relating to refusal to undertake an Education, Health and Care plans, needs assessment, issue an Education, Health and Care Plan, Part I of the Plan or the provision named within the plan.
The candidate will need to be committed to Manchester and the young people who live here. They will be required to be organised, an excellent communicator and able to build strong relationships with young people, their families and other stakeholders. The candidate will be able to produce high quality EHCP's by working in partnership with young people and their families. The candidate will be able to analyse complex information and create an EHCP that reflects these needs. The candidate will be able to organise multiple tasks, plan, prioritise and meet deadlines in line with statutory duties. The candidate will manage a caseload, make effective decisions and take ownership of decisions made. The candidate will be solution focused, thinking creatively with regards to the education provision. The candidate will be IT literate and able to use various packages.
