Job Purpose
To deliver an efficient and effective Dermatology service by providing expertise and clinical activity in the Small Animal Hospital. To enhance and develop the delivery of clinical teaching to undergraduates, interns, and residents. To undertake clinical scholarship, contributing to the Schoolβs objectives of national and international excellence in clinical service and teaching. This is a post-doctoral role in Vet Medicine at the School of Biodiversity, One Health & Vet Medicine.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Clinical: Contribute to Dermatology service by providing high-quality advice to external referring practices, maintaining a clinical referral workload to support teaching and scholarship activities. Develop novel diagnostic and treatment approaches, and explore income-generating opportunities. Participate in out-of-hours service, ensuring adequate supervision and expertise availability. Provide mentorship and support for clinical scholars, overseeing their training and research projects. Engage with professional bodies at national and international levels. Ensure compliance with professional development requirements and participate in promotional activities. Develop links with external colleagues to uphold professional standards.
- Teaching: Assist in planning, organizing, and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in veterinary Dermatology. Conduct assessments and provide feedback. Promote innovative teaching methods to enhance educational opportunities.
- Scholarship: Conduct research and publish in high-quality journals. Collaborate on research projects, secure funding, and present findings at conferences. Participate in national and international events.
- Administration: Contribute to administrative tasks within the Hospital/Division. Engage in performance and development review processes.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Essential: Veterinary degree registered with RCVS. Postgraduate qualification in small animal Dermatology (European or American) or eligibility for diploma examination. Diploma in Small Animal Dermatology. Experience in Dermatology, teaching, and clinical research publications. Excellent communication, teamwork, and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and strategically.
Desirable: PhD or research training, Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, understanding of databases and IT applications.
