Position overview:
We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Cold Heading Tool Designer for a permanent position to support our Technical Department at our UK manufacturing site in Droitwich. This role involves supporting all aspects of tooling and product design to ensure maximum efficiency and speed in our operations.
Main responsibilities:
- Creating, updating, and issuing accurate component process drawings.
- Designing tooling and gauges for efficient production, including heading and secondary operation tools.
- Producing accurate tool assembly bills of materials for procurement and tooling departments.
- Maintaining records in computer systems for component history and tooling data.
- Liaising with departments such as CSD, Tech, Production Planning, Tooling, Heading, Rolling, Sec-Ops, Cleaning, QAD, Subcontractors, and Dispatch to meet targets.
- Researching and assisting with new production methods and tooling design/construction.
- Collaborating with all departments on tooling and technical issues.
- Communicating with suppliers regarding specifications, tolerances, and improvements.
- Participating in quality, production, and APQP meetings as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Desire to learn and develop a career in tool design.
- Experience in engineering, preferably in cold forging or fastener environments.
- Ability to build relationships across all levels of the business.
- Familiarity with standards such as IATF 16949, ISO 9001, SPC, FMEA.
- Knowledge of wire/rod steel characteristics and behaviour is preferred.
- Understanding of heat treatments and plating processes is beneficial.
- Technical drawing skills are essential; tool design experience is a plus.
- Understanding capabilities and limitations of cold forging/rolling equipment preferred.
- Experience in technical negotiations with customers.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD or Inventor.
- Quick learner with technical intuition.
- Ability to read engineering drawings to BS 8888 standards.
- Good understanding of tool characteristics and performance in cold forging.
