We’re searching for a Design Manager (6 Month FTC) to join our Property Development team based in London or Leeds. Please apply with your CV and your portfolio.
The Role
We are on the lookout for a Design Manager to play a leading role in the design team to create gyms that deliver an ‘everybody welcome’ experience through optimising all elements of our brand; equipment layouts, signage, lighting, decoration and finishes etc. In addition, to contribute to the wider Development team in developing a culture of best practice and continuous improvement.
Additional Responsibilities Within This Role Include:
- Identify external signage opportunities as well as overall permanent exterior branding.
- Prepare signage proposals and manage necessary consent applications.
- Own the member experience from arrival at the location through to exit with respect to all aspects of design, including but not limited to, layout planning, signage, wall finishes, and lighting.
- Provide the appropriate technical evaluation of each site and corresponding design requirements.
- Ensure designs adhere to the appropriate format requirements and brand standards.
- Articulate creative ideas and gain stakeholder approval through the use of CAD software, Adobe suite and other visual aids.
- Work closely alongside the in-house Architects to create drawing packages for all stages of design and construction, including feasibility layouts, tendering packages and construction detail.
- Collaborate with other departments around the business, including but not limited to, Operations, Marketing, Facilities Management and Finance.
- Manage the coordination between relevant sub-contractors to ensure the approved design lands accurately and to a high standard.
- Ensure all health and safety practices are followed, from the correct training to design risk assessments and on-site risk management.
- Positively represent the Development function internally and be an ambassador for PureGym externally.
The Person
- Confident using AutoCAD design software and practiced at creating technical drawings for design approvals and construction information.
- A proven, successful Designer with experience of delivering interior and exterior design for multi-site property developments, consistently and at scale.
- Ideally has experience working in or with large scale organisations in customer facing industries such as leisure, retail, hospitality or retail banking.
- Resilient and experienced in juggling multiple projects at once.
- A highly capable operator who can successfully resolve difficult situations and make critical decisions under pressure.
- High levels of creativity, imagination and vision.
- Understands the practical implications of designing commercial environments and the required health and safety considerations to produce a safe but enjoyable environment for members.
- Can demonstrate a track record of continual professional and personal development.
- Proactive, accountable, hands on, adaptable and able to react quickly to a fast moving, ever-changing environment.
- An excellent communicator, with the ability to simply convey complex messages and influence at a senior level.
- Process orientated, with the ability to identify and remove waste through applying lean thinking.

- Being empathetic to varying levels of gym confidence and ensuring all design output is inclusive and appropriate for every diverse member of society.
