Reporting to – Platform Manager
Working hours – full time is 35 hours a week. You’ll agree your working pattern with your manager.
The purpose of your role is to use a “Cloud First” approach. Our Infrastructure department provides the foundation for all IT services and delivers the core platforms for all services in the organisation. You’ll be using advanced technical knowledge to ensure consistent and automated Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments, continually drive improvements in DevOps methodologies and the technologies used for deployments, and work on a variety of projects to make sure the systems in your area are working effectively and have the capability needed for the future. This includes ensuring security and compliance is always a considered point when configuring and deploying any service or environment.
You will be one of the go-to people for anything related to system deployments and improvements, will take ownership of escalated technical problems and challenges, ensuring they are dealt with effectively and in a timely manner, and will be assisting with day-to-day operational needs alongside the Infrastructure Engineers as and when required.
As a strong communicator, you will build relationships with other teams and our users to understand the requirements and improvements that can be made, and will be collaborating with Architecture, Development, and Machine Learning/AI teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of solutions. You’ll take ownership of new technical developments in your area and will be responsible for managing your work to meet project and operational deadlines, including SLAs around day-to-day support.
You’re accountable for…
- DevOps Practices: Managing IaC pipelines/releases in Azure DevOps and use of YAML for the configurations.
- Collaborate with Architecture, Development, and Machine Learning/AI teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of solutions.
- Implement and enhance monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure infrastructure reliability.
- Azure Infrastructure Management: Assisting in the design, deployment, and management of Azure cloud solutions.
- Implementing infrastructure as code (IaC) using Bicep and tools such as Terraform.
- Ensuring security and compliance by design within our Azure environments, in conjunction with our Architecture and Cyber teams.
- VMware Administration: Automating VMware infrastructure tasks using scripting and orchestration tools.
- Assisting engineers with management and maintenance of VMware vSphere environments.
- Advising and helping to implement high availability and disaster recovery for VMware environments by design.
- Nutanix/Hyper Converged Infrastructure (HCI) operations: Assisting engineers where needed with deployment, configuration, and management of Nutanix clusters.
- Automating Nutanix operations and monitoring performance.
- Advising on and assisting with management of disaster recovery solutions using Nutanix.
- General Infrastructure Operations: As part of the wider team, monitoring and maintaining overall IT infrastructure health.
- Documentation of infrastructure configurations and procedures, and the upkeep of the documents once solutions are promoted into production.
- Collaboration with other Infrastructure, Applications, and Data teams to support business operations.
Your experience includes…
- A strong understanding of cloud computing and DevOps practices.
- In-depth knowledge of generalised cloud best practices, with a focus on Microsoft Azure and its offerings.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python) and a good understanding of Bicep.
- Configuration management, including Ansible for example, to manage environments.
- Understanding of cloud governance processes and best practice.
- Comprehensive understanding of, and experience working in, VMware environments, both compute/SAN and HCI technologies.
- Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication skills, experience of dealing with all levels of stakeholders.
- The ability to work well within teams, both your own and those in other technical, project, and business areas.
Key responsibilities include:
- Azure Infrastructure Management: Implement, manage, and optimize Azure resources, ensuring security and compliance.
- VMware Administration: Manage VMware vSphere environments, troubleshoot issues, and perform regular updates.
- Nutanix Administration: Oversee the deployment and management of Nutanix clusters, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery.
- General Infrastructure Operations: Monitor system health, manage backups, and collaborate across teams to ensure smooth business operations.
To be considered for this role, you’ll need to show us that you’ve got the skills and capabilities. You’ll have to meet the following minimum criteria:
- In-depth understanding of cloud computing concepts and best practices with a focus on Microsoft Azure and its cloud offerings.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python) and a good understanding of Bicep.
- Excellent understanding and experience in VMware environments, both compute/SAN and HCI technologies.
